What does this bumper sticker mean?

Trying to figure out this bumper sticker I've been seeing around here (Buffalo, NY). Almost square, sporting a thick yellow equals sign (?) on a royal blue background. (MI)
Response by poster: OK, maybe it's not an "equals" sign. But it is two parallel lines about an inch thick and four or five inches wide.
Just one of those vaguely annoying questions that you want to figure out but can't quite nail down.

Help me, Ask MetaFilter. You're my only hope.

Response by poster: Holy dang. Before I could even get the (MI) up.
Golly, I loves me this electronic Interweb thingy.

Ha, this was my first-ever Ask Metafilter question. Maybe they need better advertising?

It's kind of an odd name, isn't it? "Human Rights Commission" seems rather broad for something that works specifically for gay, lesbian, and transgender equality.

FWIW, I didn't know what those stickers were until I went to a pride parade a few years ago where they were handing them out.
Side question - Do any Mefites have one of these laying around that they can part with? The website doesn't seem to give them away and I sold the car that had mine on it. I'd love to have another.

I am certain that, once they have conquered the bigotry and hate directed toward the gay, lesbian, and transgendered communities, they will move on to other worthy causes.

Funny story... I once saw a car parked at a local bar here in Portland that had the sticker on sideways. Not sure if they knew what the symbol was either or if they were just trying to be funny.

Speaking of miniature bumper stickers, is there a canonical list of two- and three-letter acronyms that people sport on their cars to feign hipness (i.e., "OBX")?

Initially those were an imitation of the country stickers on cars in Europe, I believe. Then Martha's Vineyard fans put their "MV" on anything. Maybe we should have "MEFI" decals on our vehicles?

profwhat provided a good explanation of the vagueness of the name in our first thread about this.

Ah, thank you. The purposeful ambiguity makes sense, then. I hadn't thought about that.

MEFI stickers would r0x0r. And I hate bumperstickers. (Though I love my "GNU LNUX plates.)

The thing I haven't been able to figure out is the Darwin fish with the tiny cross about where the eye would be. What the heck is that about, Orthadox Darwinian?!?

huh? does it actually say "darwin"? I think what you saw is one of the actual fish emblems that the darwin fish is making fun of.

I'm amused by those OBX (and similar) stickers, if only because I have one on my car that says D. And it's a real one (granted, the letters don't have to appear on stickers anymore, because they're part of the license plate).
