I have no idea how to get to Larkhall in lanarkshire from Edinburgh - searches throw up bizarre results.

I've searched and all it throws up are bizarre bus - train - walking (yes walking) combos - i can't drive so im hoping someone from the west coast knows something i don't.

It occurs to me the 'bizarre walking' bit might be in Glasgow, getting from central to Queen Street. This is not uncommon as they are not on the same line. There's a bus stop outside.

Yes, definitely the walk between Queen St and Central. Not far, unless you have luggage.

Walking bit will be between Central and Queen Street. If you get the train to Glasgow that stops at Motherwell then you can get a bus from Motherwell to Larkhall (no idea what the number is but bus stop is outside Motherwell trainstation and bus has Larkhall in the front of it).

Try to avoid taking the Motherwell train. There's a train to Larkhall every half hour from Glasgow Central, so you shouldn't need to wait long. It's much less hassle than if you end up in Motherwell. BTW, the Larkhall train leaves from the low level platforms at Central, not the main concourse.

The reason I suggested the Motherwell train is that there is a fast one every so often from Edinburgh (final destination Glasgow Central) so thought it might work out quicker for sgt. Jakey's point about getting the low level from Central though is probably best shout upon reflection- means you'll avoid the (lower case) jakies that populate the bus and prob works out as quick and less hassle.

If you were coming thru tomorrow, this is what you would get:

DINBURGH WAVERLEY 09:00 Train FIRST SCOTRAIL
GLASGOW QUEEN STREET 09:50 09:50 Foot
GLASGOW CENTRAL 10:27 10:27 Train FIRST SCOTRAIL
LARKHALL 11:00

It is a very short (like 5 minute) walk between queen street and central stations. I live in Glasgow, if you would like to be bought a coffee or a beer in town/have some help dragging luggage, send me a memail and I'll definitely help you out if I am free at that time.

Gratishades is right in saying that you can also take a direct train to Motherwell from Edinburgh, then take a bus from there. I wouldn't normally go that way as the Edinburgh-Glasgow-Larkhall route has very frequent service on both legs compared to the limited number of Edinburgh-Motherwell trains, but the latter might be OK if it fits in with your schedule.
