Why does my Belkin router stop taking clients?
I have the base model Belkin, and at least every other day it needs reset because it 1) stops taking new clients (even clients it has had previously, the DHCP just stops assigning) and 2) stops carrying the workgroup.
Do I just need a new one? =\

I have beaten my head against Belkin routers on many occasions, and it seems to me that the most likely explanation for your present difficulty is that Belkin routers are rubbish.

Best answer: Belkin routers are not very sophisticated, and not a lot of work has been put into making them competitive on any level. Poor reliability, flexibility, and poor support for things like VPN clients etc. Belkin was mostly about mice and laptop bags and stuff until those came along.
That aside, you ARE asking for some very simply things. And you own it. Bonus. Stay running, give out clients, show my network etc.. simple.
1) Install the latest firmware. I am assuming it has some functionality for that... perhaps that is too much to ask?
2) Write down all your important settings, Re-set it back to factory settings
3) Configure it just enough to work.. don't go turning on features or firewall ports yet
4) Keep an eye on it. If you are solid, start making any other changes you might want, such as incoming ports etc. If it comes back, put them back.
This line of troubleshooting comes from the idea that most buggy firmware is ok if you have it left as close to vanilla as humanly possible. It’s when you start turning on a couple of features that don't work together very well that things come undone.
If it's the hardware, You are SOL. Buy a decent Linksys WRT54g2 and save some precious sanity.
