We're flying from Pearson to a US destination on Friday morning at 8am. How early do we need to arrive at the airport? There are two adults and a child. We do not plan to check a bag and intend to use the Mobile Passport Control app. [more inside]

Visiting Toronto, this time in November

Me, my spouse, and our kiddo, all Chicagoland-based, will be spending the Thanksgiving break in Toronto visiting our favorite cousins and their bouncing preschooler. We will have some chances to peel off and do things solo and we may all go out together a few times as well. Difficulty level: we've been there four or five times already, so a lot of the classic Toronto tourist stuff is long-since checked off our list. Outside of our regular trip to St. Laurence Market, the goal is to see new stuff. [more inside]

Recommendations for affordable places to stay in Toronto?

So I want to stay in Toronto from December 23rd to January 1st. The cheapest I've found is about $900 CAD. I can afford it but I would prefer to pay less. I really don't want to stay in Kingston (where I live) this Christmas. I did it last year and it was quite frankly depressing. [more inside]

How to store some stuff for a couple hours in downtown Toronto

I have an appointment in downtown Toronto next week, and for security reasons I can't bring my phone, a backpack or other bag larger than a small purse, any food, etc. I am coming on the train from out of town with a six-year-old child, and I would like to try to find a way to store some belongings for a couple of hours. How should I go about planning my arrival to Canada?

So, I'm finally arriving into Canada on August 8th. Fortunately, the government has announced that if you're fully vaccinated you don't have to do quarantine. However, it's not that simple and it is the border officer that will determine this based on whether you meet certain requirements. [more inside]

What is the [Chicago neighborhood] of Toronto?

My spouse and I are planning a move to Toronto from Chicago. I've been to Toronto a few times (family from Ontario) and my spouse has been there once, but we're feeling overwhelmed looking at all the different neighborhoods (and...suburbs? absorbed suburbs?) Can you help us find a place to live? [more inside]

Group dinner in downtown Toronto

Looking for recommendations for a group dinner with six people on a Sunday evening in November in Downtown Toronto near or easy to get to from the Westin Harbour Castle. No major dietary restrictions, although a place with a variety of options would be best. Preferably not loud/touristy. Budget is max $75/person (CAD) although it really doesn't need to be fancy.

Toronto-Area Hotel for Family

We are stopping in Toronto during our Summer Road Trip Extravaganza (staying in TO July 24 and 25th). Our plans include a Jays game, the Ripleys Aquarium and the CN Tower. Getting a hotel in that that area seems very expensive. We are looking for hotel recommendations that are very subway/transit friendly to get to Downtown Toronto with a couple of not-tiny kids in tow (8 and 11). Or, if miracles exist, a hotel within walking distance of the area that is not a health/safety risk or terribly overpriced. Thanks!

Accessible tourist spots in Toronto

My Dad and his wife are currently visiting and we can't think of anything to do on the weekend. His wife uses a walker and can't really navigate steps or walk for more than a block or two. They went to Niagara Falls today and are doing a half day city bus tour tomorrow, which I assume covers most of the touristy stuff downtown. Help me! [more inside]

What to do in Toronto in February? (w/Mom, Dad, MIL, 12th & 8th graders)

Our family (mom, dad, 8th & 12th grade boys, mother-in-law) will be in Toronto Feb 19-21. We've got museums generally covered, but we're looking for wacky and entertaining stuff to do in town and nearby, plus interesting food. We like humorous theater, used bookstores, record stores, game stores, D&D, comics, sci-fi, big wacky art exhibits, hikes, funky clothes shopping, ethnic foods & lots more random fun stuff. Please suggest anything out of the ordinary or weird or beloved for us to do or eat or experience!

Medical insurance in Canada for a new immigrant

My husband and I were just approved for PR in Canada - yay! We're looking at moving to Toronto so will need medical cover for the first 3 months before we're eligible for OHIP. The visitor cover looks pretty basic and expensive for what it is. Would we be better off getting travel insurance from Australia for this period instead? Or is the hassle of dealing with an overseas insurer not worth it?
