Pogo

There's a Pogo sequence in which Albert Alligator (I think) is trying to come up with an advertising jingle, and one of the several he writes ends "...They're gristle to your mill!" What's he advertising? What're the full jingles? This is has been weighing on my mind for a few days.

Darn, I'm moving and I packed away my big Pogo book.

If no one answers I can look it up in a few days.

Off the top of my head, I think it was Truly Chooly Wummys (They're made of glue, they stick to you!)

"Oh Roar a Roar for Alice, Nora Alice in the Night,
for She has seen Aurora Borealis Burning Bright!"

Doesn't answer your question, but I rarely get to belt out a Pogo tune or catchphrase. Oh, and: "I carry the Hose."

Response by poster: kokogiak, languagehat's got a post with some Pogo tunes. Perhaps he'll drop by with enlightenment before these cold robbies do me in.

Best answer: "Have you tried truly chooly wummies?
They are cool an' glue an' yummies!
They hold together tummies...
So ask your mummies for yummy gummy wummies!
They're gristle to your mill!" (pistol shot)

or

"In any kind of wummy weather
Hold wummy soul an' self together!
Use the wummies, full of glue,
Stick with them, they'll stick with you!" (pistol shot)

A variation of the first jingle has the first line:
"Have you tried cripsey chooly wummies?"

Response by poster: YAY JOAQUIM!

"cripsey chooly wummies" sounds more familiar to me.

I forgot to mention that Bear (who can write but not read) wrote the poems. Albert was reading them back to him when he got the idea of using them as jingles. Albert also added the pistol shots to the end of each jingle.

I add my thanks, joaquim. Much as I love Pogo, I wouldn't have been able to come up with that.

Reminds me of Churchy and his "Kokomo Kola" ditty he worked on so hard for the TeeVee... despite there being no such thing as Kokomo Kola.

Johnny: you gotta look at that calendar again (but don't tell Churchy, he hates it when it falls on a Friday).
