Did Mark Gatiss originally have a larger part in Match Point?

He's on screen very briefly playing ping pong with Scarlett Johannsson. He has no lines, and it's essentially a part any extra could have played. Did he have a larger role at some point that ended up on the cutting room floor (like Michael O'Donoghue in Manhattan)?

According to this article (seach for "match") he only had the one scene.

I thought at the time that Allen just liked The League of Gentlemen, since one of its other actors (Steve Pemberton?) shows up for about the same length of time as Gatiss.
