One of our local acoustic-guitar baentertainer guys used to perform a crowd favorite known as "Stairway to Gilligan's Island." This isn't him, and it's pretty awful-sounding, but, hey. Look around for a full version. How could you leave this out?

musicbrainz.org has a rather lengthy list of people who have done Stairway to Heaven. And for the very real possibility that someone has called a different song the same thing, my apologies.

Best answer: April Winchell's multimedia page has several downloadable versions, although if you're looking for serious covers, you might want to look elsewhere. Scroll down.

I have on tape the "Beatles version". It's a nearly-perfect imitation of the Beatles '65 or Yesterday and Today -era Beatles, complete with "the Beatles ooh" and many other cliches. The words, however, are Stairway. Alas, I have never learned its provenance. It's really quite amusing.

I just, by chance, found another version... Stairway to Heaven synthesized using an NES audio system, downloadable as part of this compilation. The whole compilation is pretty awesome.

Dread Zeppelin covered it twice on different studio albums, interestingly. Both are good.

I can beat all of those!!
A short film in which a guy sings STH backwards while standing in front of the steps leading up to St. Paul's cathedral. The film (including audio) is then run backwards so that the song is (sorta) forwards, but the people in the background and so forth are walking backwards. Seriously. It's called Stairway at St. Paul's.

The Beatnix version and Rolf Harris and so on are all from an Australian album consisting only of Stairway covers, because a different band covered Stairway every week on a show called "The Money Or The Gun". I say "album" because I don't think it ever made it to CD. I used to own it on cassette!

Would you count Spirit's "Taurus" stolen by Led Zeppelin and renamed "Stairway to Heaven"?

No, given that the song did not remain the same. Just some of the music.

My friend sexyrobot turned me onto "Stairway to Bootleg Heaven" by DJ Earworm. It includes Dolly Parton, Eurythmics, Beatles, Laurie Anderson, Art of Noise, Beastie Boys and Pat Benatar.
It's damn good, and I don't even like Stairway. (Blasphemy, I know!)

I have it on CD, so it did finally make its way to the late 20th century.
