Hmm. Are we talkin' the coin or the grain? (Some googly searches dead-ended at Firesign Theater and Church of the Subgenius...)

Groats are hulled buckwheat seeds. Without context, I can't say if that helps answer your question.

I'm more familiar with oat groats.

I'd do more research, but my clamcakes are getting damp....

The reference is an allusion to low-quality food. That, and.... groat clusters would look like turds.

Damn you, now i'm humming ..."We are marching and marching to Omaha" !!

In my family, groat clusters always referred to sweets, usually donuts or apple rollovers that we would eat on Christmas mornings. I've never heard it used outside my family.

Groat is an acronym for global resolution open architecture transform.
A groat cluster is a group of locally connected computers that work together using the groat protocol.

...or not.

Don't forget the Tubs of Slaw™. (I'll take two!)

Sorry, only one tub per family. Offer not good after curfew in Sectors R or N.

"Groat cluster" is a Firesign Theater joke; like many another such, its primary purpose is as a signifier that one is hip to the Firesign Theater (which is a good thing to be -- do check them out if you like wacky humor).

juv3nal, that's mildly amusing but goofing around is not what you're supposed to be doing in AskMe. Sorry.
