Java update crashes IE7

Just installed latest Java RE 6 update 5 and IE7 crashes on opening. Have restored system and cancelled Java updates (for now) but....anyone else had this problem? Did you find a fix? I'm running Vista Ultimate on a Dell Inspiron 530 about 9 months old. Grateful for any thoughts....

Best answer: Can't help with your specific problem, but JRE 6 Update 7 is out, so you might give that a try. Also, Java doesn't uninstall older versions when you install a new one, so check add/remove programs and make sure you don't have a dozen versions of Java sitting there.

Response by poster: Many thanks for this. Turns out I am running JRE 6 Update 7 anyway. Have deleted old versions of Java (one was update 5), turned on the update thing again and the problem has gone. Well done cnc!
