Tvorog / Farmer's Cheese

Tvorog = farmer's cheese: any good recipes
When I was in Moscow, Tvorog was a mainstay of grocery stores. It's not so prevalent here, and if you 'ask wikipedia' you see why. But I found a block recently at the grocery store. Does anyone have any very simple recipes including farmer's cheese? I have found some things online that I'm not really feeling, but I was wondering if anyone had any time-tested recipes or tips that they would "swear by"? Anything I'm missing, old family recipes?

Сырники (syrniki)
500g tvorog (the more dry/solid variety is preferred -- North American variety tends to be wetter and chunkier in my experience)
0.5 cups flour
1 egg
2 tbsp sugar
Salt (add to taste)
Butter or oil for frying
Mix tvorog, egg, salt, sugar thoroughly in bowl. Gradually mix in flour. Form patties and roll lightly in flour. Fry on both sides. (Pictures (and instructions in Russian).)
For a sweeter result, add raisins to the mix. Can be served as is, or with sour cream, jam, etc. Most people enjoy them warm. I like mine sweet (more sugar and raisins) and served cold.
Oh, and depending on where you live, there just might be a Russian grocery store near you. They'll have the good stuff.

By the way, syrniki should be served with sour cream.
Not sure that I would swear by this recipe, but tvorog cheesecake (творожная запеканка) is really good. (Maybe we should be calling it "quark" instead?)

2 tbsp cream of wheat (maybe grits would work also)
50g raisins
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
a bit of vanilla
sour cream for glaze
Press the tvorog through a sieve. (I've also used a potato masher for this.) Add oil, egg beaten with sugar, cream of wheat, salt, baking soda, vanilla. Mix, then add washed/moistened raisins. Transfer to a pan, even out the surface, and glaze with sour cream. Bake 25-30 minutes until the crust browns.
