Where are the smart dog people?

Where are the better dog forums online?

Are there any MeFi-quality (or close) dog-related discussion areas online? Blogs, forums, etc.? I've looked at Dogster.com and a couple of others, but they're more on the YouTube level of discourse. Thanks, MeFiDogs!

Best answer: Rottweiler.net, while it is Rottweiler-specific, contains about the greatest concentration of knowledgeable dog people I have come across online so far, and there is a wealth of general dog knowledge there. Members do not pull punches, and have no problem telling people who are being idiots that they are being idiots, but if you actually want to learn and aren't just wanting people to tell you what you want to hear, it's wonderful.

The Dogwise forum can be hit or miss, but there are some very knowledgeable posters there.

There are not many other forums that I know of, but there are many Yahoo! groups and mailing lists (ClickerSolutions, for one).

I keep up on pet food recalls for my store here: Pet Connection. I have a bunch more links bookmarked at my other store, I'll post them next time I'm there.

Best answer: I've found the Petfinder forums to be the largest and most active of the dog forums.

Best answer: I take that back.. I have used dogforums in the past and they are the largest (that I've used), but I've had much better luck with Petfinder.

I know some people who post on forums. And I know their dogs.

Maybe some of them actually believe their dogs are trained, or maybe they just like posting stuff on the internet. I don't know.

If you have a problem - or are just a first-time dog owner - find some live people and watch them with their dogs before you listen to what they have to say.

Sitstay.com is, like dogwise, hosted by a retail site, but not bad. Mysmartpuppy is in support of Sarah Wilson's training books, but the forum is pretty free-ranging and level-headed.
