Looking For a "Split Second"

Rutger Hauer + Big Guns + Kim Cattrall Topless = Split Second, a 1992 Sci-Fi flick that is selling for too much money on Amazon. I need this flick on DVD, not VHS, and I need it for a price less than $30. I am aware that this may well be impossible, but I've exhausted all other resources. Help me, Aski-Meta Filtari; you're my only hope.

Netflix has it, I think.

Oops. Nevermind. It looked like they did... but it's not available.

Response by poster: Ayuh. I just about drove myself crazy last night in a last-ditch effort to find it. I searched Netflix with the crazy scheme that I'd rent it, tell them it got lost in the mail, then discontinue my account and run away to the Caymans with my precious DVD.

WTF? How is some B-grade flick off HBO worth $150?

I'm not questioning your taste, PL--I'm just wondering if I missed something with this movie, or whether the market in old sci-fi flicks is 10 times more active than I ever thought it could be.

Haha... Yeah, I went through the same thing with that wretched movie, "Cool as Ice." Apparently, I'm not the only one... eventually, bootlegged copies started showing up on eBay. How's that for scary?

At any rate, my local blockbuster seems to have Split Second on DVD. If worst comes to worst, arrangements could be made...

It's in print as a region 2 DVD so if you have a multi-region DVD player, you can get it from a good foreign ebay seller. This guy has sold it multiple times for less than us$25, including one auction that ended yesterday. Send him an email and ask him if he he has anymore.

As someone who's run video stores before, please don't be one of those pricks that steals the out of print titles and makes it impossible for anyone else to see. It's like stealing out of print books from a library. (Not to mention, that movie is shitass (I saw it in the theatre when it came out) and hardly worth commiting a crime for.)

"Bigger guns! We need bigger! Fucking! Guns!"

Sorry, it just occurred to me I'd seen this film many years ago.

Response by poster: dobbs: This is more of a "absolutely perfect birthday gift for a film buff I'm close with, but don't like enough to be willing to pay more than 30 bucks on a DVD for/break a law for" thing.

That said, the only thing I make a regular habit of stealing is peppermint from the free candy aisle at the supermarket. This sort of nasty habit may still qualify me as a prick, but at least I'll always have kissably-fresh breath.

Why is there such demand for this movie? Doesn't Kim Catrall take her top off in just about every episode of Sex in the City? I mean, I can understand high demand for some of the old B-movies that Alyssa Milano or Reese Witherspoon made, since they don't get naked any more, but Kim Catrall?

Reese Witherspoon? What movie did she get topless in? I don't see any in her IMDB listing.

I could be wrong, but I think we get to see boobs in Twilight.
