Where can a 21 year old girl go in the Dallas area for free or low cost psychiatric help besides JPS and Parkland?

I am not looking for faith based counseling programs or the like.

A friend was asking the same thing a while back and he used 2-1-1 (phone service) to find a low cost/free provider. Hopefully someone here can give you better information. Good luck

My wife sees Dr. Victoria Martin. Definitely not free, but she's the lowest-cost private practice we could find. The initial visit will set you back a couple hundred, and you'll have bi-weekly or monthly appointments($80/visit) until you feel stable on any medications you've been prescribed. After that it's an $80 visit every 3 months unless you have a crisis or make a major change in your medication. Of course there are prescription costs to take into account, as well.

I don't know if that is low enough cost for you, but if it is I can highly recommend Dr. Martin. I attended the initial evaluation session with my wife and felt very comfortable, and after every appointment my wife reminds me how glad she is to have Dr. Martin treating her.

Northstar will be able to treat you cheap or free without health insurance as long as you are not employed, I believe. At any rate, give them a call and see what they say.

You can call the Suicide and Crisis Center (214-828-1000) to get some references. (You don't have to be suicidal or in crisis to call. However, the counselors will treat calls that way until they can assess the risk to the caller.) They have listings of various resources around the city. Some resources will charge you on a sliding scale based on your ability to pay. The most common non-crisis counseling referral would be to Pastoral Counseling if you don't want to call the Crisis Center. PCEC is faith-inclusive but not faith-based.
