TravelFilter: Where's that website i saw a few years ago that suggested where i should go?

So i have some time off (only about a week Tues-Sunday) in June and just a bit of money (i'd like to keep both airfare and hotel under $1300 or so) but i'm stuck about places to go.

I want something beachy but cultural (for instance, the carribbean is probably too beachy and not enough culture-stuff, but London isn't beachy at all, though has tons of culture and history). Rio would be perfect but i've already been there and i dont know if i have enough time to fly that far.

I'd like to fly from JFK or LGA btw, and i'd prefer the destination to be international.

So, hive mind-- first part is-- any suggestions?

Second part is-- i saw this website a few years ago where there was a series of sliders in different categories (shopping, museums, weather, etc) and you could slide them according to your preference. It would then give you suggestions of places to go based on how you had set up your sliders. Ring a bell to anyone?

Kayak Buzz let's you put in your local airport, and it'll spit out the cheapest destinations according to location (Europe, Caribbean, etc.)

This probably isn't the website you're thinking of, but Tablet Hotels has a feature sort of like this, where you can select the activities and setting that interests you, and they'll return a list of suitable hotels.

Sorry, I don't know about the web site you're looking for, but may I offer a travel destination that may meet your criteria? San Juan, Puerto Rico satisfies your quest for culture (old San Juan) and beaches (many, many white sandy ones). The climate is ideal nearly year round. June should be especially nice.

What about the south of France or Italy or Greece? Both Italy and Greece have some wonderful islands to visit. These spots seem like they would definitly fit the bill if you could find a good deal on a travel package.

When i had the same parameters as you, I went to Guatemala.

If you can find a cheap flight, and are willing to live backpacker-style, the south of france would probably be ideal.

Kayak's Buzz is what i use when i want to figure out where the cheap flights go. Their new Trip Ideas function is also kinda neat, but now exactly what you're looking for.

Best answer: I'm fairly certain that you are describing this site. The site is http://www.tripbase.com/ and it has the sliders, etc, that you've described.

(I am unaffiliated with them, fyi)
