Wow, those are pricey compared to the clear plastic kind. Maybe I should have asked if there are any that don't cost a buttload of money.

Go to a flooring shop and ask if they have any left-over/spare hardwood. You might be able to find some with a dark stain for cheap/free. Glue it together on some particle board then cut it to the shape you want with a saw when dry.
It's a lot thicker than a regular mat, but looks a lot classier than a plastic one. posted by ODiV at 9:59 AM on April 16
