Public Enemy lyrics
July 15, 2004 11:55 AM
I'm listening to some Public Enemy MP3s and it has ocurred to me that I don't know, nor have I ever known, what "cold lampin'" means or refers to. Anyone?
From the Rap Dictionary:
cold
1) (adj) Intensely. "Stone cold rhymin'" -- Young MC (Stone cold rhymin').
2) (adj) Mean, not nice.
lamp
1) (v) To hang out next to a streetlamp. "I'm on the street, cold lampin'" -- Public Enemy (Cold lampin' with Flavor).
2) (v) To relax while others panic.

I'm lampin', I'm lampin', I'm cold, cold lampin'
Not an answer, I know, I'm sorry, mea maxima culpa. I just love saying it.

I always assumed Flav made up words and phrases just so he could rhyme.

Cold lampin' is just chilling out. If you're whack, in other words you are improperly chillin', you may shift from lampin' to illin', to which a youth my proclaim thusly "you be illin', g."

I think Public Enemy is still the best rap group ever. Incredible beats, great lyrics, amazing statements and purpose to their music without being nasty and crude.
Fear of a Black Planet is just friggin incredible all the way around.
