Is there a program that will allow me to carve up my desktop and maximize applications to certain regions.

Having a large monitor these days it is possible to have several applications open and showing at one time... is there a program that will let me specify regions that programs can expand/maximize into, thus carving up my desktop space?

Response by poster: I have used Sizer before... i'm pretty sure i found it on lifehacker, but winsplit is a new one, I will try it since sizer left much to be desired.

THANKS!

nView, part of nVidia's graphics drivers, supports this, among other things.

Specifically, this is a "tiling window manager".
