Alternatives to Hotspot Shield

My ISP (Pipex) seems to cripple torrents. When I use Hotspot Shield it seems to get around whatever they are doing and gives me reasonably consistently speedier downloads. But Hotspot Shield has a monthly usage allowance. Are there any alternatives?

It seems you have to pay for iPig after the first 10MB.

Using encryption doesn't work?

Oh, didn't notice that about iPig. Well, you could get a friend with a less-sucky ISP to run the iPig server for you. I am going to put one up once my new laptop gets here.

2nding rhizome, + different port?

My Pipex-using friend in the UK once told me that encryption alone wasn't enough to get around their shaping, but reckoned turning on 'connect to encrypted peers only' (to prevent unencrypted connections tripping their shaper) & using port 1723 (MS VPN?) did the trick. That was a year or so ago, and he's not particularly tech-savvy, so that may have changed / be wrong.
