Help me make a group page that people will want to go to!

I'd like to create a website for my fellowship along the lines of wikispaces or pbwiki but neither of those have all of the features I want.

I want to migrate us from using yahoo groups. The features I'd like to keep are:

- membership list
- email event notifications
- mailing list
- file access
- indication of changes

The features I don't have but want desperately are:

- ability to customize page easily (and beautifully!) I am not a stranger to website design, would just prefer an easy interface for updates.

- ability to set viewing permissions either for the files or specific pages while allowing most of the pages to be viewed by all

It is that second requirement that pbwiki and wikispaces don't fulfill. Their permission levels - even at premium - are limited to one set of readers. I have two- everyone and members. I don't need multiple editors - one is fine.

Anyone know of anything that would work? Thanks!

Forum Matrix may help you decide which one works best for what you need/want.

I am currently working on a wiki project with TWiki at my job and I really love it, but you need a server. I have a feeling that's not what you're looking for -- I assume you want a web-based application like the one you're using now. Otherwise, though, it fits all of your requirements, including the ability to set viewing permissions as you described.
That Wikipedia table linked by cmiller is really great; I suggest having a look at it, especially if TWiki isn't what you're looking for.

I work at PBwiki, we are currently working on our next big release. One of the features in this new release is "page level access", which should meet your second requirement perfectly! You can keep up to date on our progress at our blog: blog.pbwiki.com
