Movies similar to "incident at Loch Ness"

I just watched "Incident at Loch Ness" for the third time and seriously think this is one of the best movies ever made. The spoof-documentary is not so much the draw compared to the transition from serious film to comedy and the intelligent character humor. What other films do you think i would like?

Best answer: Sherman's March: A Meditation on the Possibility of Romantic Love In the South During an Era of Nuclear Weapons Proliferation, is a film that starts as a civil war documentary and quickly devolves into an comedic exploration of the director's love life.

Adaptation is a good example of a film that starts serious and makes a transition into being a farce. I wouldn't exactly call it similar to "Incident at Lock Ness" though.

The Aristocrats
It is ridiculously funny, has an incredible 'cast' and the editing is amazing.

Presumably you know about "This is Spinal Tap".

Christopher Guest has made a career out of making exactly the kind of spoof documentaries you're talking about, such as "Best in Show", "Waiting for Guffman", and "A Mighty Wind".

Best answer: I haven't seen Incident at Loch Ness (I'm adding it to my list). Two films that I love that work on multiple levels are Tremors and The Quick and the Dead. I mean, on the surface Tremors is a monster movie, and Quick and the Dead is a western. But both are deeply funny, playing with stereotypes of the genres. And the character development is surprisingly good.

You might want to check out this old thread, which has a similar question and lots of good recommendations.
I would also recommend any of Herzog's films, especially Fitzcarraldo, which I believe is mentioned several times in "Incident".

Dr. Strangelove for the serious to comedy transition. Wayne's World and Repo Man for working on multiple levels.

Mafioso transitions from comedy to serious, and is a wonderful film.

I recommend Cane Toads to just about everyone. It works for your question, sort of. It's a real documentary, it's real funny, and the humor derives from all the kooky people and their obsessions with puppy-sized toads. When it was recommended to me my friend said (or perhaps it said this on the box of the VHS I got from my university library) the movie is what you would get if the Monty Python guys made a documentary and tried to be sort of thorough about it. The movie's short and weird and wonderful.

Also, a second for the documentary American Movie. I didn't like Home Movie by the same director, however.

I would say American Move too, but it is not a spoof. It is a real documentary. I met the film makers as well as the two main guys in the film (Mike Shank and Mark Borchardt) at the film festival in Chicago. I don't know if that was the implication of the other posters but I feel safe saying that this is a real documentary about real guys. A must see.
