Mom needs a new phone

My mom needs a new phone and it's Christmas time.

She's on ATT. Her biggest needs are the ability to type emails (ie it has either decent sized buttons or a querty pad) on her phone and that it be resilient. She has light arthritis from years of typing and seems to drop phones a lot. She currently has a flip phone which has withstood years of abuse. Preferably it would be under a $150. Any help would be appreciated.

Best answer: Refurbished Curve? Or you could look through the AT&T site at only the qwerty phones, then look for reviews on Howard Forums...

Yeah, I'd say go for the best refurb Blackberry that fits in your budget.

Best answer: I love my Blackjack. Love love love it. You can probably get it cheaper than a BB. Really one of the things I love most is that it does the things I need (email, text, good voice quality, tethering) and is also very slim.

I've dropped mine real good a couple of times, and the worst thing that's happened is that it jettisons the backplate that goes over the extended battery (it's a little more fragile than the short-life battery back; both come with the phone). The Blackjack is 3G, which makes it a smidge faster than the Blackberries.

I just got the BlackJack 2 for $250 w/a $100 rebate for a two year contract. I'm suitably impressed with it, and being that it's a WM6 smartphone, you can download any apps you need to help her with e-mails. The built-in mail app is okay for IMAP/POP3, but sucks in the push department. If she uses Yahoo! mail, I'd recommend downloading the Yahoo! Go app, which does wonders in that department (among others).

Sprint has the Mogul 6800 which offers a keyboard. I have this phone. My husband has this phone. His best friend has it. My mother in law has it. Let's just say it is a great phone. I have always despised having to text/email with a flip phone's pad, so having a keyboard on my phone is a dream com true. The phone is not bulky and is capable of doing email, text messages, and there are some many free software available online that you could assist her with customizing her phone beyond just email.

I have a recipe program, a diet program, an organizer/calendar, and have been able to make the phone a wifi portal. To be quite honest, I think that it is better than the iphone. Firstly, it is much cheaper plan and package wise (internet, picture mail, texts, etc.). And secondly, with the software you can put on it, it is just as easily customizable to BE its own little iphone.

But check it out on your own.....
