Bejeweled.. But Not

Addictive online game filter: Help me find a certain online game I miss. It's 'sort of' similar to Bejeweled.
A few years ago there was an online game that I used to be addicted to. I can't remember its name, but I played a few variations. After looking around Addicting Games, I think the game I remember is very similar to Bejeweled. Edit: Bejeweled is interesting but isn't exactly what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, now we have to rely on my bad description!
Basically, I remember there was a board filled with brightly colored pieces (I've played essentially the same game with colored umbrellas and colored orbs). There are maybe four different colors, and the pieces are arranged randomly in stacks (the end result might look something like a full Tetris board). All adjacent pieces of the same color form a 'block,' and the object was to click on these blocks. The bigger the block of pieces, the more points you scored. As pieces were eliminated, the remainder would drop down, forming new blocks with like colors. The ultimate goal was to have as few pieces (or, no pieces) left at the end of the game. Okay, I hope I explained that well.
Does this sound similar to any games you know? I'm looking for any games that are similar to what I've described, though I'm hoping to find something pretty close. I'd be happy to find either an online version of the game or Windows freeware. Or even just a name so that I can Google!

Well, that sounds like Puzzle Fighter, so I looked for online games like Puzzle Fighter, and found Puzzle Pirates, which I'm gonna have to tear up now.

Best answer: SameGame or one of its myriad imitators. Here's a pretty good web based version.

Actually, I can't get the game to load in the link I just posted, though I'm convinced you're talking about Collapse.
Try here if it won't load for you in the other link either.

Also, when I first discovered Puzzle Pirates, I literally played it every spare minute I had for about 9 days in a row. Then I quit playing because it was taking over my life.
Why yes, yes I am an online game addict.

You might find it in this essay about tile-matching games

Not Collapse, although it's similar to what you're describing (and I used to be addicted to it)- it has the new blocks being added all the time feature your game lacked. SameGame looks like your best bet.

Best answer: Sounds like Boxxi to me. You can find a clone here called Jace Boxxi. I've looked for better clones of the game, but they seem hard to find.

I know the game you are talking about - I have it on a disk somewhere, let me give a look tomorrow. Yep the colored blocks would 'poof' when clicked on and the others would fall to and morph with like colors.

On preview - Capostrophe has it, there is an offline version called Clickomania, which is the one I was thinking of.

From your description, Capostrophe is right; that sounds like SameGame.

Going to have to nth Puzzle Pirates. I took up my life for maybe 2 years? I weaned myself off of it maybe a year and a half ago. The social aspect is just as addicting as the gaming aspect.

Gem Mine sounds like what you're looking for, and while you're at the site you can download free indie rock. :)

I believe it's bubble breaker. Do the pieces slide over to the right once you kill a column? If so, it's bubble breaker.

Response by poster: Uh.. sorry for the lag in responding.. I had to test out all the games, and, for scientific purposes, that meant playing each for three hours. And I'm not done yet! I'll mark best answers when I finish..
SameGame and Boxxi are pretty close to the game I've been looking for. Exact same concept, but I've never actually played it with the little squares. I seem to have an affinity for orbs, and I'm thinking Bubblet might be close, but I haven't played it yet. In fact, I haven't played any of the bubble-based games yet, but yup, the pieces do slide over to the right once you kill a column. I think one of those games might actually be the game, but there are quite a few that are pretty darn close and seem like worthy replacements. And I'm very interested in your recs, like Virus and Gem Mine.. it's just going to take a while to try them all out! Anyway, I think this is the second-most personally fulfilling question I've ever asked, so thank you to everyone!
