Freighter passage from Gulf Coast to Mexican coast? Ideally, I want go from Mobile, AL to Merida [only 674 miles]. But Pascagoula, Pensacola to anywhere in Mexico is fine by me. All I've been able to find is the Schepers Line which goes from Houston to Veracruz and then onto Central America. Driving all the way to Houston. there's the carnival cruise but I'm just looking for one-way, no-frills trip.

Do you want to take your car with you on the ship, if possible?

Here is the web site of the Port of Progreso (Merida) translated into English which lists some freighter lines that run between Houston and Progreso, such as Maersk Mexico.

You can always contact them to see if they take passengers on that route.

Hope this helps.

Response by poster: No need for a car here. And thanks for the tip on the Port of Progreso. That ship from Panama City, FL to Merida might be the one.
