I want to become a prostitute. Can anybody tell me the best way to go about it?

Should I go through an agency or remain independent? Are there steps I need to take to avoid being busted by the police? What are the best hours to work? How much should I charge?

This post was deleted for the following reason: even though there are some places where prositution isnt illegal, it's illegal most places in the US which is where the MeFi server lives. -- jessamyn

Do you want to be a stand-on-the-corner bargain hooker or high class, A-list escort?

I have often thought that a prostitute who works solely among computer programmers and web geeks, many of whom are in their twenties and thirties and have never been laid, would make a killing. You could charge hundreds of dollars per act of coitus. Don't work the streets, that's strictly crack-whore chump change. On the streets, johns will balk at anything over $40 or $50 for a fuck and a suck.

Response by poster: Definitely a high class A -list escort. I suspect, however, that most people end up somewhere inbetween.

craigslist should work, right? especially for the target audience noted above.

I'd love to be that girl! I like geeks (I am a bit of one myself) and they seem mostly harmless. If they've never been laid, then they are disease free. Plus I'm sure they'd be really appreciative of my services. It would be a trip to be somebody's first!

Any ideas how to tap into that market?

Make some business cards, put on a skimpy video game character outfit on, and head for E3. If things don't work out, there's skid row a couple of blocks away.

If this is a serious question, I'd suggest that you contract with an agency, simply because it seems like it would be safer, and they'd be able to provide you with an established client base.

Response by poster: Are there girls currently working E3?

Craigslist would be the easiest. Post an ad with a description of yourself, say you'd like to offer a girlfriend experience, and explain what you want from the guy. You will likely get about a billion replies and will have to sift through them.

Don't meet the guy at your place. Don't meet at his place. Go to dinner and a hotel or something. Class that shit up--he's paying for it anyway.

There are about a billion prostitute blogs on the Internet and many of them have been linked to by Metafilter. These have a lot of details and instruction. But from what I've read, outside of the women working the professional BDSM/sex-worker racket who are into the scene themselves, the women who do this don't come out of the experience entirely happy with themselves. Especially the ones who just saw it as a lark where they could make some quick cash. It can fuck with your head and sense of self.

first: read this. read the whole college callgirl blog but read that article first.

second: provide more information. are you male or female, young or old, what country do you live in, major city or not, what is your background and why does this appeal to you. and so on...

third: I get "best answer" for that college callgirl link.

Tigercrane..

Do the research, find an account of a prostitute who can honestly say, in the long run, she/he doesn't regret making that decision.

It's a dangerous lifestyle, emotionally and physically.

Know that this isn't a judgemental thing on my part, just trying to be realisitic.

If you follow through, I wish you the best..but...please be careful in all the obvious ways.

Why noy? Have you ever met a prostitute? Ask them why not.

I also guess I want to add that from the experiences I've read, most of the ones who were most hurt by it were the ones who were doing it on a whim and thinking "I'm sex-positive! This isn't a big deal! This will be fun!"

Sex Positive != Ready to Have Sex for Money.
