Can anyone recommend a psychiatrist in New York City who has experience with learning disabilities? (As opposed to, say, mood disorders.)

There are a few thousand too many for cold-calling to be a useful narrowing strategy. Feel free to e-mail if you'd prefer, of course! Thanks!

Look for a neuropsychiatrist, that will narrow down your search. Call one and ask they specialize in learning disabilities. If they say no, ask if they can recommend someone who does. You should be just one or two calls away from finding a doctor.

Or call The Learning Disabilities Association of New York City should be able to point you in the right direction. Their helpline is designed to provide referrals to a variety of resources for people with learning disabilities.

I know you asked for a recommendation, but hopefully this info will help if nobody else is able to recommend a specific psychiatrist.

Can you get a referral from an LD organisation? Most of them have ties with health professionals with such experience.

I used to work for a wonderful organisation called AHRC - www.ahrcnyc.org - who would be able to help you. Give them a call - they have psychiatrists on staff I believe, or would at least be able to refer you appropriately.

Response by poster: Thank you, both of you -- those are excellent starting points!
