driving from port arthur to new orleans for my wife's birthday. can anyone recommend craftsfolk, artisans, jewelry or clothing designers along the way which could provide "that special gift" i am trying to find her? im relying on the "hive mind's" sense of "cool." go for it! i'd love to be able to arrive in some small town, check out some small shop and miraculously have that perfect something waiting there for her. any ideas? food suggestions welcome, too.

THERE'S A PLACE IN BATON ROUGE CALLED CREATIVE CRAFTS WHICH ALLOWS YOU TO BROWSE THEIR PRODUCTS ON LINE(MOSTLY CERAMICS). PERHAPS YOU COULD FIND SOMETHING THERE BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

Hrm, I'd have to know more about your wife, although I can pretty heartily recommend the jewelry by Beatrix Bell.

When you get in New Orleans, Magazine Street has several miles of interesting shops, and the French Quarter has a lot things. If you're coming in on 1-10, there's nothing but strip clubs and truck stops between Houston and New Orleans, so you may want to reconsider the magic of that small town surprise.

When in New Olreans try Thomas Mann, Mignon Faget, and Rouge Beauty.

Response by poster: yeah, uh, my bad. exhausted, thinking i'd changed a few things but not really enough, woke up thinking, "why did i repost this?"

but, hey, got a few more promising suggestions and if i'd done this on the blue, i'd-a been torn a new....
thanks y'all.
