Rockets in the East Bay?

Where is a good spot to let off some Estes rockets and/or play with some RC planes in the East Bay?

Looking somewhere big enough to launch and recover some Estes rockets and potentially play with some small RC planes. Any ideas? Can you let off Estes in any old park or are there restrictions?

Response by poster: Sunnyvale and Los Gatos are a long way away, looking for somewhere close to Oakland.

This would have been perfect but alas no

ha, your link to the naval base spot reminded me that there's a field at the southern tip of alameda (technically, bay farm island). Bill Osborne Model Airplane Fiying Field.

Bay Farm Island is pretty neat to wander around too.

Contact the local National Association of Rocketry and ask them. There is a San Francisco branch and their contact information is here. (Do a search for CA). NAR people are very friendly folk who would love nothing more than to tell you where to fly a rocket.
