Dance music for a wedding! Please help.

You've already helped with the "mingle" music, but now we wanna get our dance on. '70s, '80s, indie, light on the hip hop. It needs to work for all ages, but doesn't have to be totally sex-free. We don't want any YMCA or Macarena. PLEASE HELP!

Right now we are heavy on Prince, Justin Timberlake, Donna Summer...

We have TOO many slow songs now and need faster songs.

Looking at the video of my brother's wedding it's quite impressive the way the dance floor just exploded when Mambo Italiano came on. It was in Rome, but that doesn't completley account for it, since none of his guests were Italian.

Despite veering into the rap/hip-hop vein (maybe because of it), I've never been to a wedding/club/dance where Baby Got Back didn't get all the women up on the floor (and thence the men).

It is best to play some music that you think most people will recognize.

Don't forget to include some slow songs, people like that.

I dont know about your crowd, but people at our wedding were all about the typical songs you always hear - Y.M.C.A, the chicken dance, the twist, etc.

Also: Don't forget Motown. Who doesn't like motown?

my advice: Don't over think it. Pick what you like, and what people will recognize, and the event takes care of itself.

"learnalilgivinanlovin" by Gotye is a great boppy dance track, I highly recommend it. (His website is here), I think he's made it available for free if you look at the links on his website. (ooh - check out "hearts a mess" while you're there - spine chilling)
