Anyone know where I can buy Pocari Sweat in Washington, DC?

I'm having friends in town for the weekend. We all used to be stationed in Japan at one point or another, so I thought it'd be fun to have some Pocari Sweat on hand. I've tried calling some Asian Markets, but they had no idea what it was (it's a funky tasting sports drink). Anyone in DC know where I can pick some up?

Best answer: Napoleon Bakery, Little River Turnpike, Annandale, VA. It's in the cooler on the right by the door.

While in the neighborhood, why not stop by AnnanGol Restaurant for top knotch Korean!

Sorry, make that address Columbia Pike, same general area - near the corner of Columbia and Little River.

Response by poster: I live in Springfield, so that's just as easy. Thanks again!

It's in the can rather than the bottle, but it's still Pocari Sweat, the sweet nectar of the gods that kept me hydrated after many a bout of Puyi's revenge in Beijing!

If that connection ever dries up, there is always grand international market in sterling and possibly other locations throughout the area.

There's a Filipino/Japanese store called "Danny's Tindahan" on Wisconsin ave in Tenleytown, somewhere between the metro stop and Fannie Mae building. Their selection is a little limited, but they've always had Pocari Sweat.

Are you sure the staff at the markets understood you? It's my impression that Pocari Sweat is a pretty standard staple.

If you're in Springfield, I think you should first try Grand Mart, on Little River Turnpike just north of 395. Just north--exit onto Little River heading north, and take the first left. I don't know for a fact that they have it, but I'd be surprised if they didn't.

Next, try Super H in Fairfax. That's worth a trip even if they don't have Pocari Sweat.

If it ever interests you, there's a grey-colored gatorade/powerade (I forgot which -- I thought the name was 'glacial freeze') that tastes vaguely similar to pocari/aquarius. Might be interesting to serve that up as pocari sweat first and see how many of them get tricked.

Matin de Paris on 236 in the center of Annandale, in cooler on right as you go in the door. As the name of the café indicates, it is a thoroughly Korean café and, as Sam Soon will tell you, the Koreans make the best French pastry.

Super H in Fairfax definitely has it.

Also, if you're in the NoVa area, in general, you should shop for produce in Super H Mart or Grand Mart or something similar, much cheaper, more variety and fresher than you get at safeway or giant.

I love Grand Mart. Even though it smells like rotten fish, their produce selection is incredible and so cheap.
