Los Angeles Filter: How does parking work for LA metro stations?

I'm moving to LA this month. I'll be working in Beverly Hills, the wife in Long Beach (I know!). We plan on living closer to my job, since I'll be working crazy hours.

Since the drive for her would be nuts, she's likely going to take the metro (since it spits her out in Long Beach about two blocks from her work).

Problem is: if we can't find an apartment within walking distance from a metro station (in Hollywood, North Hollywood, maybe even downtown), how does she get to and from the station each day?

Can you park at the stations?

Should she ride a bus to the station?

Any general comments on riding the LA metro welcome as well.

There is parking at many Metro stations, and the ones I have used are free. Just drive in, park, and hop on the train.

She'll probably want to drive to the Wilshire/Western station and park (if there is one). She can then take the purple line to Metro Center and take the blue line all the way to Long Beach. It actually is a pretty painless trip. I don't know which part of Long Beach she'll be working in, but the downtown touristy parts have very good public transportation.

If you're living near Wilshire Blvd., there is a Metro Rapid Bus (#705) which skips most of the stops and will get her to Vernon/Long Beach Ave West. From there, she can take the Blue Line Train straight to Long Beach. Simple and easy.

Or

Go to the MTA site and do a search by address and time giving a customized route and plan. http://mta.net/default.asp
