What breed is Brian, the talking dog from Family Guy?
He's clearly a mix breed.

What breed is able to talk?
I think it's clear he's a modern day Snoopy, who is also a beagle.

I'm with DU, I think he's a beagle the same way that snoopy "is" a beagle.

I Nth beagle - I think he's supposed to be a weird take on Snoopy, and Snoopy was a beagle.

Judging by his love for the mojito and the fact that they've made several snoopy references about him, beagle.

Brian is *very obviously* a wire haired fox terrier. They are prone to mojito abuse and niteclubs which often results in embarrassing behaviour.
Its a genetic thing. Or so I've been told.

There was an episode involving Brian's mother, who was eventually stuffed and mounted by a taxidermist. As I recall, she didn't look a thing like him... not white (grey? beige/yellow?), and slightly shaggy coat. I can't seem to google up a picture at the moment.
So... not purebred beagle.

He's a cartoon dog that talks, so I would say he is some kind of bastard offspring from Goofy.

I am going with the "beagle". The episode involving Brian's mom specifies that he was born in a puppy mill outside Austin. I'd have to dig out the disks to tell you the name of the puppy mill but I'm pretty sure it was [something] Hill Puppy Farm, reminiscent of Snoopy's alleged birthplace, the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm. It is worth noting that according to Wikipedians, there have been 6 other Peanuts references in Family Guy over the years.
completely unrelated, but there's this white dog in the neighborhood that is so clearly smarter than his human that I call him Brian. Brian knows to use the sidewalk; his human prefers to walk down the middle of the street.

Ah. She does look like him. Disregard what I said then. :P

He's a mutt, and judging from his size he's got some Labrador or other big breed up in there.

Snoopy thinks, he doesn't talk--Schultz was adamant about that when the TV specials, commercials and films were made.
