More Philippines ?'s - Going to Cebu in about 10 days with my brother. Have no idea where to stay, what to do, what to bring ect...

My brother just told me he's going to take me on a trip to Cebu, (not my idea) for about 10 days. I have no idea what to expect. I've done a lot of google research and talked to a few natives but no one from Cebu specifically. We would both be most comfortable in a youth hostel type environment but haven't been able to find anything I like on the internets yet. Please, any advice for a couple of young clueless guys in Cebu.

Also, how easy is it to travel between islands, and which direction should we head in if we do any moving around?

There are cheap plane shuttles just about everywhere in the PI. I don't know about youth hostels and whether I would quite trust staying at one of those in that kind of environment, but regular old hotels are usually dirt cheap in the Philippines. I stayed at a pretty dcent hotel when I was in Cebu and it ran about $30 U.S. a night.
