Converting an opaque projector to a decent slide projector?

This is the projector I have... projector

I'd like to use it to view some slides and have an approximation how they will look on a real slide projector

You would have to rig some sort of backlighting for the slide. The opaque projector, of course, uses reflected light.
Maybe if you could locate the backlight fixture from an older flatbed scanner?

Try placing a mirror on top of the slide. Be careful not to let the slide or projector overheat.

really? used slide projectors can be had so cheaply. you'd have to jump through hoops, i suspect, to make it display slides, and i suspect the results wouldn't be great. that said, you could try purchasing or rigging a lighbox to put behind (or, rather, on top of) the slide. not sure that it would work, but if you have an opaque projector, maybe you already have a lightbox.
