Where to find opera glasses in DFW?
December 21, 2006 6:51 PM
I want to get a pair of opera glasses as a gift for my wife. There are plenty to be found all over teh internets, but I'd like to buy from a brick & mortar retailer somewhere in the DFW area. Problem is, I have no idea who would even sell something like that. Any suggestions?
The Observatory in Dallas claims to sell opera glasses.

I went to the Dallas Opera a few weeks ago and they have a shop in the lobby area that sells them. I'm not sure if you can access it if you don't have a ticket, though. Perhaps you could try calling them or emailing and asking. They would be the experts, after all.

Oh, and also: the Dallas Opera doesn't technically have a house- yet. A monstrosity of a new art center is set to include one though.

Did you try Needless Markup? Strikes me as exactly the sort of thing they'd have.

I am unfamiliar with Dallas, but I know that you'll often find very nice opera glasses in antique shops. Most antique shops around here are poorly organized and wouldn't be able to tell you if something is on the shelves from a phone call, but if you don't mind wandering around for a while you will likely find a good pair.
