Recommend an LCD monitor.

I'm looking for a glossy, high-brightness LCD monitor.

I currently have an "X-BRITE" Sony SDM-HS75P/B. I really like the glossy and bright (400 cd/m2) screen. Sony's getting out of the monitor business and everything else I've looked looks dull in comparison. Can anybody recommend a monitor with similar specs, preferably 20" or greater? (I don't particularly care about widescreen or not.)

I've got an Acer AL2032WA (Amazon); the brightness is "only" 300 cd/m2, but (to my eyes) it's plenty bright.

I've really only got good things to say about it, actually; it's a wonderful monitor.

Dell LCDs are typically extremely bright. The 2407 is 450 cd/m^2.

Dells, like every other non-XBRITE monitor, have a matte finish. Unless you work in a dark room, glossy screens tend to reduce apparent contrast by reflecting ambient light. They look great on the sales floor, but in my experience they are harder on the eyes.

I understand that a lot of people feel that way. I've been happily using the Sony for over a year now, so that's not my experience.

The only non-Sony non-laptop monitor that I know if with something like X-BRITE is the NEC LCD1970GX, which also appears to be discontinued. I'm hoping someone knows of others.

I've only had issues with glossy screens when the lighting is fluorescent - which is most offices (and nowadays with many compact fluorescents, many homes.)

Mine is NEC, about 2 years old, not sure what model, probably same or similar to AS's recommendation. It cost around 700$, but worth it. At that time, the only glossy ones were very high end, but I bought it for graphics and it does the job.
