Birthday gift for new teacher.

A good friend of mine recently got her first teaching job after graduating earlier this year. Her birthday is coming up, and I'd like to get something teacher or school related that she might appreciate. It doesn't have to be something she could use in the classroom but that would be nice too. Any suggestions?

What grade will she be teaching? Some rubber stamps with sayings such as "Please Sign", "Homework", stars, smilie faces. I've seen a nice selection at the craft stores.

Elementary School, right now she's teaching a 2nd grade class.

The best book for new teachers: The First Days of School. Invaluable for a new classrom teacher. Has been recommended over and over on AskMeFi.

How about a gift certificate for a maid/housecleaning service? When I was a new teacher, I was too exhausted at the end of the day to take care of little things like cleaning the house.

Something like Baho says. You might consider that everyone she knows will be getting her teacher-related gifts and something that's not directly related might be better.

Speaking as a teacher, make sure you get her something for her, and not for her classroom. My aunt is a teacher and always got me records/stickers/stamps that were more a gift for my students than for me. That probably sounds selfish, but your friend is so much more than a teacher. Let the 'teacher' gifts come from students. Trust me, they will - the tote bags, mugs, stamps, etc.

A spa or manicure gift certificate would be a nice way for her to unwind after a hectic day.

I also second the book reccommendation for The First Days of School, but I'd reccommend that to her and not get it as a gift for a birthday.
