Does anyone have any experience of buying an indian domain name?

Im thinking of getting a .in domain name. Does anyone know of any drawbacks? Id be hosting my site from a server based in Germany, and I've been told that indian domains have to be hosted in india. Although the guy who told me this said that was 3 or four years ago so it may have changed.

Name.com seem to have the domain I want. Anyone ever done any buisness with them?

Thanks for the help hive mind!

It used to be you had to have a business within India to get a domain name and such. Now, anyone can get at them easily. I haven't ever registered anything with name.com but the .in domains I have registered I registered using NameCheap and have never had problems.

In 2005 the .in registry switched their requirements. Now anyone can register a .in domain.

Here is a list of accredited registrars to choose from.

Never done any business with name.com, so I can't help with that.
