Make my gtalk/gmail play nice with Firefox...please...
October 11, 2006 10:42 AM
Gtalk (embedded in Gmail) is not playing nicely with my FireFox (v. 1.5.0.7). When any conversation box pops up, it makes the scroll bar disappear on the right. As if that weren't enough, it teases me by popping it back into view every few seconds, and the conversation box flips back and forth by about the width of the scroll bar - kind of like the page is trying to reload the scroll bar every couple of seconds.
I've searched around and found nothing on this specific issue, please forgive me if I missed something. It makes conversations in gtalk next to impossible to have without going cross-eyed, really appreciate any help.

Try resizing the window (just dragging on the bottom right corner a little) when it happens.

you can also try logging out of gmail, clearing your cache, and logging back in.

clearing the cache seems to have done the trick. any idea why that is?

gmail uses javascript for a lot of the functions... it's quite possible that one javascript library was updated, but firefox used the cached version of a different library. There are many reasons this could happen, and only one way I know of to prevent it (on any browser)... turning of the cache...
it's one of the caveats of ajax-y sites... a bummer, I know...

If you have a PC, why not just use the Google Talk application? It's a lot better than the chat feature within Gmail.
If you have a Mac, you can easily set up iChat to handle your Google account.
