A Marzipan broke my iPod Mini screen?
A falling Marizpan (peach) broke the glass cover of my iPod mini and want to find a replacement. Only the glass is broken - the LCD still works and the iPod plays. I've been looking on the web and eBay but cant find a replacement for just the glass. Any suggestions MeFites?

If everything is working fine, I would suggest getting a hard case to cover the crack and keep your fingers crossed? I have an agent18 case and it is wonderful, it keeps my screen completely scratch free and free from all the debris from the bottom of my purse.
Here is one for the mini
Other than casing it up and hioping for the best, I would avoiding poking at the crack (like picking a scab), it'll make it worse.

I use clear packing tape to fix lots of stuff. Or, office supply places sell plastic protector sheets for PDAs, which cling tightly, allow bubbles to be eased out, and would protect the screen.

What about using one of those clear patches that windscreen repair shops give you to slap over stone chips so water doesn't get in? Tough, clear, smooth, and removable.

Sounds more like something Strong Bad would do.
I'd try and stabilize the glass somehow (dots of superglue, a screen protector, packing tape) and then put it in a hard case to prevent further damage.
You also now have an excuse for a new Nano, if you need one...

Oh, my Homestar Runner joke made me forget the main point of my answer. I don't think it would be possible to actually replace the glass. Even if you sent it to Apple they would just replace it with a whole new (refurb, prob) Mini.

Response by poster: Actually, I've changed the battery in the iPod and it looks like the glass screen can be replaced. I've seen replacement LCD screens on eBay. What I'm looking for a parts dealer that has the glass to swap.
Although it does look very Strong Bad right now...

I know I'm way late to the party, but I've ordered replacement parts for a number of iPods through ifixit and have always been happy with them. They even have documentation that will show you how to replace the parts, etc. It's usually pretty simple with normal iPods, but in the case of the Mini's metal "sleeve", this might be a slightly more complicated process, so a site like this which supplies parts + instructions might be a good idea.
