Scanner Opinion needed

Windows XP does not support (no drivers) an Agfa Snapscan 1212 Scanner because it is operates through the parallel port. Would the scanner work if I purchased a USB to parallel printer cable even though I would have to rely on the Win 98 drivers or is it a lost cause for this scanner.
"Please note that VueScan only works with SCSI, USB and Firewire connections, and doesn't work with wireless connections or parallel-port connections."

If you have to use it I suggest dual-booting to Windows 2000.

riotgrrl69: The supported devices list includes his printer (the 1212P, which I believe means Parallel).
It might be worth contacting Hamrick, the dude who makes Vuescan.

...USB to parallel printer cable...
will not automagically make your computer think that the scanner is USB. Just another parallel interface will be available in VESA (probably named LPT2 if you already have a parallel port), and you will still have the same problems of lack of driver support.
I bet your scanner will work in all the latest and greatest Linux distributions though! Although that probably won't help you.
Maybe buying a new scanner will help you :). They are reasonably cheap these days.

Some older scanners don't actually have a driver as such; the Windows 9x "driver" is actually an application program that bangs on the parallel port directly. Try installing the Windows 98 software and running it Window 98 compatibility mode; even if you don't get access to the XP scanner wizard, you should still be able to scan to .bmp files or perhaps the clipboard.
