Is there an application that will check my .Mac account mail, and that displays an icon on the OSX toolbar? An example would be the GMail notifier.

The Apple mail app does this if it's open. I'd have to guess there's a dashboard widget that does it too.

You mean in the Dock? DockStar will let you customise the Mail.app icon, including showing how many new messages you have in your .Mac account (or any other account, up to five different ones). Not tried it myself, though.

If you mean the Menu Bar, Mail Status Control will do it, but only if .Mac is the only account you have in Mail.app.

Oh, and there's Mail Appetiser beta, which floats a window on your desktop, rather than being in the Dock or Menu Bar.
