i am looking for the title of an obscure play; all I have for reference is the content on the preface page of the play.

I read this play WAAAY back in undergraduate school - it's a weird play, and what is even weirder is the preface, prologue, I don't remember how it was referenced.

All I remember of the play is this crazy preface. Or prologue. But it had NOTHING to do with the actual play!

Paraphrasing the subject matter - it lasted only about a half-a-page:
The stage opens up to reveal a bunch of sheep hanging by ropes at different heights around the space. A janitor type figure comes on with a broom (I think) and then starts setting all of these sheep on fire. So, as the man sweeps the stage (again, I think) these sheep just sit there, blatting and burning. Curtain. After that, it pretty much says "just kidding, the play starts on the next page."

Anyone out there ever read something like this?

I have posted your question to The Theatre Board of all theatre boards- Talkin Broadway's All That Chat. If no one there knows, then it was probably all in your head :-)

Art Buchwald wrote a series of play with the word "sheep" in the title, including "Sheep on the Runway", and "Counting Sheep". Ring a bell?

That is the only serious answer I have gotten. The rest are puns regarding sheep- funny, but not exactly helpful.
