What album cover is this?

Classic Rock Filter: I'm looking for the name of a rock LP with a cover design that features a screaming face, essentially purple-hued. I believe it's either Deep Purple or Humble Pie, but Google is failing me ...
... that's about all I've got. From memory, the teeth are prominent, and the face is frozen in what looks like a silent scream. "Cartoony," possibly rendered in colored pencil or oil? Early 70s, perhaps?

Best answer: Sounds like King Crimson, In the Court of the Crimson King.

That's exactly what came to mind when I read the question.

My first guess would be The Wall.

Here's the image from The Wall, since C_D's image doesn't seem to be working.
But come to think of it, I don't think that image was created until the movie version of The Wall came out. But maybe that's what you were thinking of.

Best answer: For whatever reason, In the Court of the Crimson King was always at the end of my dad's record collection. This put it neatly at eye level for the toddler/small-child me.
That image is indelibly burned into my mind.
Also, it was released in 1969, which supports the early-1970s guess.

So true. That and several ELP albums gave me nightmares as a kid. It's what I thought of when I read the question, even though I couldn't think of the name of it right away.

OMG I love Tarkus (well...the A-side). That gave you nightmares?
I was more frightened by Nazareth's "No Mean City", myself.

In the interest of actually answering the question however, could it be "Blackout" from The Scorpions? Screaming guy with a sorta purplish background...

I don't know why this is so fascinating to me. Anyways, here's all the studio album covers of Deep Purple, and here's Humble Pie. I'm not seeing any screaming guys. It's probably King Crimson.

That link definitely does not have all the Humble Pie covers - it's at least missing Rock ON with the motorcycle drill team cover

Best answer: Well, since you all are posting images in here, I'll fire a volley for Crimson King:
Now try to tell me this isn't what the OP had in mind. The other suggestions fit the description, but only this one is disturbing enough to warrant the obsession ... prove me wrong, Joe ...

Response by poster: Whoa, you guys are good. It is, in fact, King Crimson. Sorry it took me a bit to get back here and confirm. Thanks!
