Can anyone recommend a good web host based in the Uk?

Rackspace. My server is in their US data center, but I would guess you would get the same excellent service / support that I've received on this side of the ocean.

Qbic has 15mb in Unix or Windows for £25 a year, which is nice if you just want to pop some pages up.

creativesell are great. i shopped around prior to signing up and they came well reccomended. (google search)

i'm getting 350mb of webspace and 10gb bandwidth p/m for £49.95 per year. which is great for me.

i e.mailed them for my specifics and they gave me a package to match, you may want to try the same.

my g/f signed up for 34sp and hated it. the uptime wasn't good by the sounds of it

I use DSVR, and although they're expensive, they've always seen me right.

avoid 1&1 (1and1). even though they are free, they're awful. I made the mistake of signing up for their current promotion. The interface is painfully slow. I got so sick of dealing with it that I went to change the DNS to point to the host I use for all my other domains (dreamhost.com, not in the uk) and 1&1 informs me they don't allow the DNS to point outside of their own servers. to me, they seem like the UK version of Network Solutions. evil.
