Foot-sore in Mississippi

I was arrested and convicted for DUI in Mississippi over 3 years ago. I have not driven since (small town, good friends, I live close to work), and now I am wanting to get my license back. . . .

Concerning SR22 insurance--am I effectively "grandfathered in" from needing it? You have to carry SR22 for three years following a DUI if you are to hold a MS driver's license. As I have not driven since the arrest, do I now still need to get SR22 insurance and keep it for three more years, or am I "clean," insurance-wise? and yes, I know the DUI is still very much on my record.

You should probably contact a local insurance rep about these questions, they'll be much more in-the-know about local laws.

A friend of mine had to go through this after two years without a license or insurance. The Motor Vehicle Department told him that proof of the SR22 had to be received in the main state DOT office before they would even give him his license back. It didn't matter to them how much time had passed, and they gave him the final date he could drop the SR22 coverage. This was in Wyoming, though, so your state laws may be different. (It also didn't cost him anything extra for the SR22 coverage through Geico)
