Can anyone here point me to a website or know the approx. percentage of couples in North America who regularly use sex toys including vibrators with intercourse? Thanks! posted by GoodJob! to society & culture (10 comments total)

I'm not sure if anyone's going to have an accurate number for something like that, but the San Francisco Sex Information hotline or site might be a good place to ask. posted by occhiblu at 10:03 AM on June 28, 2006
I seriously doubt anyone has statistics like that. About the best you might do is to find sales statistics on sex toys -- but the fact that they've been purchased doesn't mean they've been used, and you couldn't assume that each such was purchased by a different person. posted by Steven C. I'd imagine it would be fairly closely tied to the number of couples who have an open, positive outlook on sex. I have no idea how you would capture this information. posted by jammer at 12:23 PM on June 28, 2006
Whatever the number is, it is more than you think. posted by JohnnyGunn at 12:26 PM on June 28, 2006

Actually, I bet that post Cosmo, post Sex in the City, etc etc, it's less than you think. posted by ascullion at 12:28 PM on June 28, 2006
We were invited to a sex toy party just the other day. It still carries a "naughty" stigma, but it's real damned common. My money is also on "more than you think". posted by I Love Tacos at 1:47 PM on June 28, 2006
According to the November, 2005 Harper's Index, 46 % of American women own vibrators. Harper's Index
Obviously, this doesn't answer your question, but I was surprised at the number. posted by pasici at 2:02 PM on June 28, 2006
Harpers pulls a lot of those numbers out of body orifices. posted by Steven C. Den Beste at 9:19 PM on June 28, 2006
