WoWFilter: How can I chat with my gaming buddies?

My gaming friends use Ventrilo to chat while playing WoW. I've downloaded the Mac version of the Ventrilo software, but when I tried to use it I got an error message stating that I had the wrong Codec, so I was unable to hear or speak to them. Is there a piece of software my friend can download for his server that would allow my mac to play with their computer? Or something that I can download for mine?

Best answer: The mac version of Ventrilo doesn't yet support the GSM codec that the server uses by default. Only the Speex codec will work on macs for now. Ask your friend to switch to that codec and give it another try.

More specifically, you'll need to ask your Ventrilo server administrator to change the codec to one of the Speex codecs. I'm our guild's Teamspeak server administrator (and a Mac user) and I had to do the same thing.

Best answer: I had to make the same change for a few of our mac users when I was playing. On the off-chance that you guys use TypeFrag, have your ventrilo admin login and click Configuration. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and look for Voice Settings.

I selected Speex (32 KHz, 16 bit, 10 Qlty) 5520 bytes/sec and that worked fine for us.
