Homeless in the fall?

Questions about grad school housing: 1. Anybody know a good site to find apartments on? I'm moving to Mt. Pleasant, MI in August and need a place for me to live that takes cats. I tried rent.com but its not helping much.
2. Are there any sites that help match you up with roommates?
3. Living with your classmates? High compatibility or just plain dumb (I'll be in a class of 7)
I'm going to Central Michigan for my PhD in clinical psychology. I need to get a place for me and two cats on a modest stipend, so the cheaper the better. It doesnt have to be right on campus, I'll be commuting anyhow.
My main problem right now is finding a roomate. I could live alone and pay more, or live with some stranger and hate them. The former option appeals to me more, but my mom's being all logical about money.
So, has anybody had experiences with living with their yearmates? These are the only people I know up there right now (not well though) and I would assume we have at least the fact that we're hard working and like psychology in common, so it seems like an okay idea. But would we end up hating each other from over-exposure?
Also, any suggestions for websites that list apartment or houses for rent, or roomate finders? Michigan State had its own craigslist type of site, but I cant find one for CMU.

Does CMU have a housing department? Here at UW, there is an office that basically helps students find off-campus housing. Essentially it's a very well-maintained and monitored set of bulletin boards. If there is something similiar, I would check it out. You could also always talk to the other PhD students in your field; they may be in the same boat (or have friends who are).

Knowing Mt. Pleasant, you're going to have a hard time finding stuff online. You really need to get a copy of the local papers somehow. This might help too.

I agree with rossination. You really should talk to someone in grad housing at your university. But to answer your question - you should try apartments.com. They usually have several newspaper listings in their search results. I did a search for apartments in Mt. Pleasant that take cats, and it came back with 36 results. 32 of them are from the Lansing State Journal.
Roommates.com and Roommatenation both had listings for Mt. Pleasant, but they both cost. At Roommates.com, you can send a message to the renter for free but have to pay to contact them by phone or email. I think that at roommatenation, you can only search for free.
