Help me find my perfect carry on bag.

Help me find a shoulder bag that is small, fits a regular iPad and also has a trolley sleeve.

I use a small shoulder bag when I travel. I mostly use it to carry an iPad, over-ear headphones, and a few other small things. I like a one strap bag, not a backpack. It needs to be small because I am a large guy with big feet and I don't want it to take up too much room under the seat.

What I would love to find is a bag like this that also can slip over my carry-on suitcase (I believe this is called a trolley sleeve). I can find tons of small, cool, one strap bags that are designed to hold an iPad, but I can't find any that have trolley sleeves.

This may be overkill for your needs, but I love the Tom Bihn Co-Pilot.

Tom Bihn has several bags with what they call luggage handle pass-through slots. Probably the most minimalist is the Nomad?

I really like Away's products, and they carry a bunch of bags with trolley sleeves. Here's a link (just ignore the backpacks). Even if the bag itself is a little bigger than you need, if you don't pack much in it, it'll be smushable for under the seat or in the overhead bin.

Would the 11.6" version of this bag work?

If you are otherwise happy with your current bag, you may be able to get your local shoe repair place to add a trolley sleeve. Or you can use a luggage strap.

I think in your use case “luggage pass through” is a more common term than “trolley sleeve.”

The Lo and Sons O.G bag is great. I have the medium size and I’ve mistreated it terribly — overstuffed it, tossed it around, squashed it into overhead compartments — and while it’s kind of dirty it’s still in perfect condition other than that. And I’ve had it for over ten years. The trolley sleeve is really well designed, too; it doesn’t tend to let the bag sag forward like a lot of them do. (I should note that mine is a previous iteration and I can’t speak to whether the current one is still such good quality.)

For your use case, I'd get this Dagne Dover bag.

I also like this larger Dagne Dover bag , which may be overkill for you but I like that it can be a backpack too.

I have a lovely leather messenger bag (something like this one, but cheaper) I use on my travels that contains my laptop, iPad and lots of essential odds and ends. When flying, I also have a trolley case. While my messenger bag doesn't have a sleeve, I can sit the bag on top of the case and wrap the strap around the slide-up handle twice - it stays nice and secure and I don't need to worry at all about it falling off or being lifted off while it's behind me, because you need to unwind the strap from the handle to do that. I recently got a new case and the handle is wider, so I have to wrap the bag's strap around the handle with it only partly slid up out of the case, which is slightly annoying but you don't need to be able to have the handle slid right out and most messenger-style bags will be able to wrap around the handle.

I'm 6'1" and have very big feet - I always put the messenger bag at my feet when I fly and it does take up a bit of room, but not so much I can't get my feet under the seat in front.

So, a sleeve may not be necessary, although it would be more convenient to just slide it on.

Try Waterfield bags, made in San Francisco. Great quality and customer service.

This is a pretty small one - https://originalcontentbooks.com/shop-foliosandnotebooks

It’s the TopoFolio II, but I really like it and it does have the sleeve.
