Layer it like a Polaroid picture

I’m trying to edit a photo in Photoshop 2023 so it looks like a Polaroid. I’m having some trouble with the frame part.

I used this tutorial to try and make a frame for the picture. When I got to step 3, I highlighted the background and chose an off-white color. It didn’t change color and I ended up with an optic white frame.

I then downloaded one of the Polaroid frames from the Adobe stock store. I grabbed the first frames on that page, and the only file in the folder gave me both frames in the same image, and I was reluctant to crop out the left frame because I was worried it would affect the transparency in the image. The photo I had edited to look like a Polaroid was also a bit larger than the frame, and when I tried to re-size it, it just gave me a detail of the photo instead of shrinking to fit the frame.

FWIW:
• This is the first time I’ve used Photoshop in a few years. I have some experience with the program, but there might be some functionality changes that I’ve missed.
• I would like to ding up the frame (add some whiskering on the wide part of the frame, some yellowing, maybe a fingerprint) and I think the Adobe frame might be better than freehanding it.
• I’m doing this on a library computer and the version they have is called Adobe Photoshop 2023.

What should I be doing?
